Greenbelt Shooting Investigation – One in Custody After Gunfire Across Prince George’s County

A major police investigation unfolded Friday afternoon across parts of Prince George’s County after reports of gunfire at multiple locations led to injuries, a police pursuit, and the arrest of a suspect in Greenbelt.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to what officials described as a “critical incident” involving shootings in several northern Prince George’s County neighborhoods, including areas near 67th Avenue and Patterson Street.

Investigators said at least two people were injured during the incident. One victim was reported to be in critical condition, while another suffered injuries that were not immediately described as life-threatening.

Sources familiar with the investigation told local media the situation may have started in the Riverdale area, where multiple 911 callers reported a person allegedly driving through neighborhoods while firing a gun into the air. Police later pursued the suspect through northern Prince George’s County before the incident ended in Greenbelt.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that one suspect was taken into custody and at least one firearm was recovered during the operation. Authorities also stated there are currently no outstanding suspects connected to the shooting investigation.

The incident created a heavy police presence around Greenbelt Road and Edmonston Road as officers secured multiple locations connected to the investigation. Residents reported seeing numerous police vehicles, blocked intersections, and emergency crews throughout the afternoon.

As a precaution, delayed dismissals were implemented at Greenbelt Middle School and Dora Kennedy French Immersion School while officers ensured student safety during the active investigation. Police later confirmed officers were stationed at both schools during dismissal operations.

Investigators have not yet publicly released the suspect’s identity or detailed what may have led to the gunfire. Detectives continue gathering witness statements, reviewing surveillance footage, and reconstructing the sequence of events across the multiple crime scenes.

Prince George’s County police are urging anyone with cellphone video, dashcam footage, or additional information related to the shootings to contact investigators as the case remains active.
