Cain Clark and Caleb Vazquez Linked to San Diego Islamic Center Shooting Investigation

Authorities in San Diego are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, with law enforcement sources identifying Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, as the suspected shooters connected to the attack. Investigators say the two were later found dead in a nearby vehicle from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The shooting, which occurred Monday near the mosque in the Clairemont area, left three adult men dead, including a security guard who authorities say likely prevented even greater loss of life. Police and the FBI are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime after reportedly discovering anti-Islamic writings, hateful rhetoric, and a suicide note connected to the suspects.

According to police, officers initially received a report earlier in the day regarding a missing juvenile and weapons taken from a residence. Shortly afterward, calls came in reporting an active shooter situation at the Islamic Center. Witnesses described scenes of panic as worshippers and nearby residents fled for safety while heavily armed officers secured the area.

Officials confirmed that children attending the mosque’s adjacent school were safely evacuated and accounted for. Community leaders and local officials, including San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, condemned the violence and expressed solidarity with the Muslim community.

Police say the investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to be released as authorities continue processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
